CHICAGO -- Chase Anderson won his major league debut, Gerardo Parra and Miguel Montero homered, and the Arizona Diamondbacks beat the Chicago White Sox 5-1 on Sunday. Recalled Tuesday from Double-A Mobile, Anderson (1-0) hadnt seen any action until Sunday and he made his first big league appearance count, at one point retiring 12 consecutive batters. He allowed one run and only two hits in 5 1-3 innings while striking out six, helping Arizona win for the fourth time in five games and secure its third consecutive series for the first time since June 2012. Anderson, 26, was Arizonas ninth-round selection in the 2009 draft and made it to Triple-A last season before going back to Double-A this year, where he was 4-2 with an 0.69 ERA. Brad Ziegler threw a perfect eighth to extend his scoreless-outings streak to 18 over 17 1-3 innings. Anderson was backed by homers from Parra and Montero. Parras fifth-inning drive off Hector Noesi (0-3) gave Arizona a 3-0 lead, and Monteros with one out in the ninth off Frank Francisco pushed the Diamondbacks advantage to 5-1. Parra also started the game with a triple before scoring, extending his streak of getting on base to 18 games. Montero reached five times with two hits, two walks and getting hit by a pitch. That was more support than the White Sox gave Noesi. Moises Sierras solo homer in the sixth got Chicago on the scoreboard, but an offence that had scored 30 runs over the last five games only mustered four hits. Noesi was solid but needed more help, going six innings and allowing three runs and eight hits while throwing 117 pitches. Noesi also fell behind 1-0 in the first thanks in part to shaky defence. Parra led off the game with what appeared to be a routine fly to centre, but Alejandro De Aza misjudged it and stumbled before missing the ball, allowing Parra to get to third on what was ruled a triple. Martin Prados sharp single to right then drove in Parra to give the Diamondbacks an early lead. Jose Abreu was the White Soxs designated hitter for the third straight day because of a sore left ankle. Parra then gave the Diamondbacks a 3-0 lead with one out in the fifth on his fourth home run of the season. A.J. Pollock led off with a single, and after Cliff Pennington popped out, Parra lined a Noesi delivery into the right-field bullpen. Following Abreus single, Anderson retired 12 straight until Sierras homer with one out in the sixth cut the Diamondbacks lead to 3-1. Tyler Flowers then walked, and Anderson was replaced by Joe Thatcher. NOTES: White Sox LHP Chris Sale (left arm) will throw again Thursday. His lawyer said Rice is "ashamed" and "sorry" about his conduct but would not specify exactly what Rice did. After the five-minute court hearing, Rice applied for New Jerseys pretrial intervention program, which allows for charges to be dismissed against first-time offenders who participate in the program and meet certain conditions. The county prosecutor will decide whether Rice is allowed to enter the program. If not, prosecutors have offered Rice a plea bargain that would spare him jail time if he participates in anger management counselling. "Hes ashamed of his conduct and hes sorry for what he did," attorney Michael Diamondstein told reporters outside the courthouse. "There was a disagreement between him and his wife," Diamondstein said. "He made a mistake. He loves Janay and wants to move forward. This was a momentary lapse of reason." Security video obtained by TMZ Sports shows Rice removing the motionless body of Janay Palmer from an elevator at Revel Hotel Casino on Feb. 15. She did not comment as the two walked into the courthouse. The couple married a day after Rice was indicted. If convicted, Rice could face three to five years in prison. The former Rutgers star walked to the courthouse holding hands with Palmer. He said he is a "happy father and a happy husband.&quuot; When asked by reporters what he hoped would happen, Rice responded, "for you all to have a blessed day.ddddddddddddquot; Originally, Palmer and Rice were charged with simple assault, but the Atlantic County prosecutors office reviewed the case and dropped the charge against Palmer. A grand jury lodged the more serious charge of aggravated assault against Rice. Through her lawyer, Palmer has indicated she does not want the case to proceed. But prosecutor Diane Ruberton said Palmers co-operation is not crucial to it. "Im confident with the evidence we have that I could secure a conviction at trial, with or without her," Ruberton said. She said prosecutors have additional video evidence beyond what was published by the website, but she would not describe its contents. Ruberton said Rices celebrity played no role in the case, adding that plea deals are routinely offered to defendants charged with third-degree crimes, as is the case with Rice. Diamondstein said he expects a decision on whether Rice will be allowed into pretrial intervention within the next few weeks. "Hes an excellent candidate for it," he said. "Hes just a high-character individual. Hes a good guy." The conditions of pretrial intervention would include staying out of trouble for a year, as well as undergoing counselling and remaining gainfully employed, the attorney said. "Theyve been going to counselling and working on some of the issues they have," Diamondstein said. "Theyre very happy." ' ' '
