SEATTLE -- It stands that the real test of No. 5 Washingtons validity as a playoff contender is about to begin. The warm ups for the Huskies are done.As we head down the stretch here its not always going to be like this with the teams we have coming and there is stuff to talk about and work on, Washington coach Chris Petersen said.Jake Browning threw three touchdown passes to give him 26 for the season, added another rushing TD, and Huskies used a big first half to roll past Oregon State 41-17 on Saturday. After a week off, the Huskies (7-0, 4-0 Pac-12) easily outworked the undermanned Beavers (2-5, 1-3) despite a performance that gives Petersen plenty to work on heading into a schedule thats about to get more difficult. While getting past Stanford and Oregon earlier this season were important moments for the Huskies, it turns out they were not the tests to prove Washingtons worth. The schedule gets more difficult beginning next week with a trip to No. 19 Utah, followed by a road game at California, with USC, Arizona State and a trip to Washington State still looming on the schedule. We were just paying attention to Oregon State. When Utah comes up, well think about Utah, Washington safety Budda Baker said. We know Utah is a great team. The Huskies won their 10th straight, a streak that started with a victory at Oregon State last season. It is Washingtons longest win streak since winning 12 straight during the 2000-01 seasons. And they continue to dominate the first half. Washington put away this expected blowout early, jumping to a 21-0 lead after one quarter and leading 31-0 at halftime. Washington has now outscored opponents 100-7 in the first quarter and 200-24 in the first half this season. We came out pretty hot, Washington wide receiver John Ross said. We had a great week of practice and those are the kind of weeks that we need to stay consistent.Browning led the attack, even if his completion percentage wasnt up to the standard he set through the first six games when he led the country hitting 72 percent of his throws. Browning threw touchdowns of 19 yards to Aaron Fuller and 23 yards to Dante Pettis sandwiched around his own 1-yard TD run in the first quarter.Browning added a 41-yard touchdown pass to Pettis in the third quarter. Browning finished 14 of 28 for 291 yards and Petersen said part of the game plan was to take more shots downfield leading to the lower completion percentage.Ross had 115 yards receiving and Pettis added 112 yards -- both with four catches -- giving the Huskies two receivers with more than 100 yards for the first time since 2002.The depleted Beavers started third-string quarterback Marcus McMaryion after Darell Garretson and Conor Blount were injured. McMaryion was 12 of 26 for 148 yards and two interceptions. The Beavers were also without starting running back Ryan Nall due to a foot injury aggravated in last weeks loss to Utah. Tim Cook had 108 yards rushing and a late TD, while Victor Bolden Jr. had a 75-yard touchdown run in the third quarter. If you watch college football or care about defense of care about the Pac-12 on defense you know how good those guys are up front and they are elite, Oregon State coach Gary Andersen said of Washingtons defense.POLL IMPLICATIONSThe Huskies should move up at least one spot from No. 5 after No. 2 Ohio States loss to Penn State. An impressive win at Utah next week might be enough to sway some voters for a spot even higher.THE TAKEAWAYOregon State: The Beavers came in with the second-best pass defense in the Pac-12 giving up just 179.5 yards per game. But Washington attacked from the start and exposed holes in what has been a very good secondary.Washington: Injuries could be a concern going into next week against Utah. Washington played without starting DE Joe Mathis, the team leader with five sacks. Mathis was on the sideline during the game but his absence left Washington undersized on the end of its defensive line. Connor OBrien started in place of Mathis.RUNNING AWAYOne bright spot for Washingtons offense was the performance by Myles Gaskin. After breaking out for 197 yards rushing against Oregon, Gaskin followed up with 128 yards on 18 carries, most of that coming in just over a quarter. Gaskin had just two carries for 15 yards in the first quarter and by the middle of the third quarter had his third straight 100-yard game.WASHINGTON FIXTURESince 1961, Frazer Cook has been the voice of the University of Washington band for any football game where the entire band is performing, home, away and bowl games. Cook, 74, missed his first game in 55 years on Saturday. The school Cook was ill but did not provide any specifics.UP NEXT:Oregon State: The Beavers return home to host Washington State.Washington: The Huskies head to Salt Lake City for a showdown with No. 19 Utah.Matt Wieters Cardinals Jersey . Michell Burger, a woman who lives on an estate next to Pistorius gated community, said she and her husband were awoken by the screams in the pre-dawn hours of Feb. 14 last year, when Pistorius killed Reeva Steenkamp by shooting four times through a door in his bathroom.LONDON -- Dismayed at dropping the first set after being a single point from taking it, Serena Williams sat in her Centre Court sideline chair and cracked her racket against the turf once, twice, three times, four. Then she casually flung the racket, hurling it so far behind her that it landed in the lap of a TV cameraman filming her second-round match against 65th-ranked American Christina McHale.Williams recovered to force a third set, only to fall behind yet again Friday, perilously close to what would have been the six-time champions earliest exit in 17 Wimbledon appearances. But as she herself declared afterward: Mentally, no one can break me.Eventually, the top-ranked Williams did indeed come through, edging McHale 6-7 (7), 6-2, 6-4 for a thrill-a-minute victory at a tournament so rain drenched this week that matches will be scheduled on the middle Sunday for only the fourth time in 139 years. The dramatics of Williams match, which concluded with the main stadiums retractable roof closed, were equaled by those of her older sister Venus: She had to wait out three rain delays, including one of more than an hour that arrived, of all times, right as she held a match point. But Venus, owner of five titles at the All England Club, persevered, too, barely getting past 29th-seeded Daria Kasatkina 7-5, 4-6, 10-8 to become one of only two women already into the fourth round. You see a winner go by you, and a lob go in, and youre like, `My god, whats next? said Venus, who at 36 is the oldest woman in the field and has played about 6 1/2 hours of tennis in the past two days, including singles and doubles.Of the way things went for her Friday, including the interruption at match point while she led 5-4 in the third and Kasatkina served at 30-40, Venus said: It was like a Hollywood script.Serenas mood soured when she had a set point in the first and appeared to have converted it, until McHale -- whos never been past the third round at a major -- successfully challenged the call that her shot landed out. From there, McHale played aggressively, and when she grabbed that set, 21-time Grand Slam champion Serena took out her frustration on her racket.I was just really, really, really angry. I had a lot of chances, said Serena, who acknowledged she faces a fine for her display and joked that sshe needed to reach her racket-smashing quota for the season.dddddddddddd She got really lucky on some shots.Despite all that went on in the siblings matches -- they overlapped, so their mother, Oracene Price, hustled from No. 1 Court, where she saw Venus win, across the way to catch the end of Serenas victory -- the most shocking development Friday was what was going on in Novak Djokovics third-rounder against 28th-seeded Sam Querrey of the U.S. before it was suspended because of showers in the evening.Djokovic, owner of a 30-match Grand Slam winning streak that includes the past four major titles, allowed Querrey to seize the first two sets 7-6 (6), 6-1 during their 72 minutes of action. Given the way things were going for the No. 1-seeded Djokovic, he had to be thrilled that the match was halted, giving him a night to rest and regroup.Only one man managed to move his way into the fourth round: Roger Federer. He got to play in the main stadium, with the roof overhead, and easily beat Britains Daniel Evans 6-4, 6-2, 6-2.Four other third-round mens matches were suspended in progress. Worst of all, from a scheduling standpoint, one second-round mens match is still not finished, with No. 24 Alexander Zverev locked in a fifth set against Mikhail Youzhny. And three second-round womens matches are also pending. That is why officials decided to scrap the traditional rest day on the first Sunday, something that was done only in 1991, 1997 and 2004.I might take a day off tomorrow, just because I can, the 34-year-old Federer said with a smile. Yeah, I can. Im sorry, I can. I have to take them when I can. Im an old guy.Among the other winners Friday was 2009 U.S. Open champion Juan Martin del Potro, who has had three operations on his left wrist since he last participated at Wimbledon in 2013. He eliminated fourth-seeded Stan Wawrinka, a two-time major champion, 3-6, 6-3, 7-6 (2), 6-3 to reach the third round. My hands (are) shaking, del Potro said after being regaled with a lengthy ovation at Centre Court. Its a great sensation for me, because Im playing tennis again -- and I feel alive.---Follow Howard Fendrich on Twitter at http://twitter.com/HowardFendrich ' ' '
