Warringtons Kurt Gidley is confident that his side are well placed to challenge St Helens in Fridays Super League clash, live on Sky Sports.Reeling from back-to-back defeats at the hands of Wakefield and Castleford in recent weeks, the Wolves struck back with a nine-try demolition of reigning champions Leeds Rhinos on Friday evening, a step in the right direction for Gidley and his team ahead of their trip to Langtree Park to take on fifth placed St Helens. We got four guys back from injury which certainly helps with attacking, defending and confidence as a team, said Gidley. We did some analysis early in the week and then we defended a lot better on Friday night against Leeds than probably the previous two weeks. Former Knights captain Gidley won 12 caps for the Kangaroos before his move to Warrington So theres much more of a spring in our step this week and St Helens actually beat us last time at home, which is something that happened pretty recently, so weve a chance to get them at their home ground this week. The 33-year-old contributed 20 points, a try and eight conversions in the victory over the Rhinos, but despite the strong performance of his team just seven days ago, Gidley is all too aware of the threat of the Saints, Warrington having fallen short against Kieran Cunninghams men in a 22-25 defeat back in April.Im not sure if Luke Walsh is playing but their halves last time dominated the game for them added Gidley. Theo Fages and Luke Walsh controlled the game really well last time that we played them and we actually scored more tries but we let in way too many points in the end and they beat us at home. So, I remember from that night we werent quite on defensively and our kicking game was off and the combination of those two things meant that we lost the game in the end. Gidley has quickly settled into his first season of Super League rugby, since his move from the NRL and Newcastle Knights and is keen to continue the positive start made with the Wolves.Ive always watched the Super League since I was a young kid and certainly the test teams against the Kangaroos. My brother played over at St Helens for four years so Ive been watching the Super League for a fair while now and always aspired to come over and challenge myself, he said. This is the right time to do that in my career and Im really enjoying the new challenge. There have certainly been some tough games and Im enjoying my decision to come over and play for Warrington - its been great so far hopefully we can continue to grow as a team and have plenty more good times ahead. Also See:PODCAST: Barrie v TerrySky Live: Saints v WarringtonHave your say on RL rulesWATCH: SL round 17 previewJohnny Manziel Jersey . Pretty much everyone except Corey Crawford.Hard to argue with the way Crawford is playing right now.The veteran goaltender made 38 saves in his second shutout in three games, helping the Blackhawks beat the Colorado Avalanche 4-0 on Thursday night for their fourth straight victory.Just trying to get better every game, Crawford said. Feeling good with reading the play. The conditionings there, too. Feeling sharp every game. I just go out there and battle.Marian Hossa had two goals, Jonathan Toews also scored and the Blackhawks killed off three more penalties to run their streak to 12 after an awful start to the season. Artemi Panarin added his fifth of the season off a slick pass from Patrick Kane in the third.Chicago won for the seventh time in nine games, but Quenneville pointed out a couple areas of concern, mostly having to do with puck possession and movement. Of course, he sounded pretty satisfied with the situation in goal.Colorado dominated parts of the first and second periods, but Crawford was on top of his game again. He stopped Tyson Barrie about 5 minutes into the first, and denied Matt Duchene on a breakaway in the second. He also had a sharp glove save on Barrie at 9:34 of the third.Hes been outstanding, Quenneville said.Crawford caught a break when Nathan MacKinnon banged a shot off the left post about 4 minutes into the first, and Chicago defenseman Brent Seabrook helped out by breaking up a 2-on-1 in the second. The guys played well, Crawford said. PK (penalty kill) was solid again, moving pucks down. It makes it harder on the power play when youve got to skate back all the time. Its just a big game for us.?Semyon Varlamov made 17 saves for Colorado, which has dropped four of five.I liked a lot of that game, coach Jared Bednar said. We made some mistakes, they capitalized on their chancees.ddddddddddddThe Avalanche had a prime chance to jump in front with two power plays in the first, but the Blackhawks turned away each opportunity. Then Toews and Hossa scored in a 38-second span.First, Toews poked in a loose puck at 14:25. Then Hossa got free for a breakaway and managed to flick a wrist shot over Varlamovs glove before sliding into the corner. Hossa celebrated by getting up on his knees and flexing for the cheering crowd.Hossa beat Varlamov on the glove side again early in the third, making the most of a great stretch pass by defenseman Duncan Keith, and Kane found a streaking Panarin in front at 12:40. It was Kanes team-high 10th assist.Tough, obviously 4-0, it looks ugly but its not nearly as ugly as it looks on paper, Duchene said. Some nights its the other way around. You lose by a couple of goals and youre terrible. There are some good things we want to build on and get ready to the next one.Game notesHossa has four goals in his last four games. ...
