The Grizzlies have announced that Mike Conley will play Friday against the Kings, marking a much earlier return for the star point guard than Memphis previously had anticipated.Conley was expected to miss six weeks after suffering transverse process fractures in his lower back on Nov. 28, according to the projected timetable released by the team the next day. However, Conley recently resumed basketball activities and pushed to come back sooner. The team announced on its official Twitter account that Conley would be active and would play, but the veteran point guard told reporters that he still needed to be evaluated before the game.Tonight Ill be re-evaluated, Conley told reporters after going through shootaround. Hopefully, Ill have the opportunity to play. Well see.It is not the first extraordinary display of toughness from Conley, who played in the 2015 postseason despite a facial fracture.Memphis made two roster moves Thursday to clear the way for Conley to come back. The Grizzlies said veteran point guard Toney Douglas has been waived and rookie point guard Wade Baldwin IV has been re-assigned to the franchises D-League affiliate.Memphis also announced Thursday that rookie forward Deyonta Davis will miss up to eight weeks after tearing the plantar fascia in his left foot Tuesday night in a loss at Cleveland.Forward Chandler Parsons, who has been out since Nov. 19 due to a bone bruise in his left knee, and forward James Ennis, who has missed the past three weeks with a strained calf, have been ruled out for Fridays game. The Grizzlies fared surprisingly well without their star point guard, winning seven of the nine games that Conley has missed. Douglas played a key role in Memphis recent success, averaging 5.8 points, 2.7 rebounds and 2.7 assists in 17.8 minutes in the seven games he played for the Grizzlies after the team used a roster spot created by the NBAs hardship rule to sign him.Conley was putting up the best numbers in his career before being injured when he collided with a Charlotte Hornets player after taking a charge. This past summer, Conley signed a five-year, $153 million deal -- the largest contract in NBA history -- to stay in Memphis.?He has averaged 19.2 points, a career high, and 5.7 assists in 17 games for the 18-9 Grizzlies.Information from The Associated Press was used in this report. Nico Rosberg insists the stewards were right not to penalise his Mercedes teammate and title rival Lewis Hamilton at the Mexican Grand Prix.Hamilton, who started on pole, drove straight across the grass at the first bend of the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez after locking his wheels, and re-emerged further down the track still ahead of the chasing pack. Both Daniel Ricciardo and Max Verstappen said Hamilton should have been punished but the stewards decided against looking at the incident, deeming he had not gained an advantage, something the world champion himself argued after the race.Initially watching the footage of the incident as he was being interviewed by Sky Sports, Rosberg said, How does he get away with that? in an apparent reference to Hamilton. However, when he was then asked if he thought his teammate should have been given a penalty, Rosberg said: Definitely not. Please do not put words into my mouth. That was not very fair of you.First of all, Lewis did a better job this weekend. Since you did put words in my mouth, I will tag on to where you left off, which is that he went into the corner first and came out first, so thats OK.Apart from that, for me, the race, there was a lot going on of course, quite eventful. But in the end, second place, I have to live with that. Lewis was quicker so he deserves the win,, and for me, second place was the best I could do.ddddddddddddThe stewards did, however, look into a similar incident after Rosberg went across a corner later on when Verstappen tried to pass him on the inside. Technically Rosberg gained an advantage because he cut a corner short and emerged in second ahead of Verstappen. It was quite a big thump and I thought my car would have been falling to bits, said Rosberg. So Im quite pleased that my car held on. You can see he locked up and ran me off the road. So definitely that was too much. And after that I managed to stay in front.Rosberg was involved in a similar clash with Kimi Raikkonen at the Malaysian Grand Prix, when he barged past Raikkonen while the pair diced for position late in the race, bumping into the side of the Finns car and removing part of his front wing.?The German was handed a 10-second time penalty for the incident -- something Mercedes boss Toto Wolff labelled complete nonsense -- but was able to open enough of a gap over Raikkonen in the final laps to claim third position. You cant compare situations, Rosberg added. Its not for me to judge. Lets leave them to judge the situations and decide when something needs action or not. ' ' '
